Trauma can occur at any age. The younger the child is, the more difficult it is for them to communicate what is causing them to feel so frightened and unsafe. Acute trauma

Acute trauma occurs after just a single event. This can be witnessing a violent act in the community, car accidents, or the sudden loss of a loved one to name a few. After an acute traumatic event, the child will experience some form of distress that is often short-term. The distress they feel tends to be reflected in their behavior as a way to cope with what they are feeling. With support from loved ones, children who suffer from acute trauma are able to transition easily back into the “normal” behaviors prior to the event.
